How to Make your Home More Visitable and Livable

How to Make your Home More Visitable and Livable

Hallways with narrow and long hallways, entrances with steps, and no bathroom on the first floor are all barriers for many people. This can be a barrier for not only older adults who want to remain in their homes over time but also for nondisabled people to accommodate relatives and guests who may require basic accessibility. I will discuss how someone can make their homes for visitable with practical and clear solutions.

Fall Prevention

Fall Prevention

According to the National Council on Aging (NCOA) falls are the single largest cause of death and injury to older Americans. Fall prevention is an essential part of senior care, as it reduces the rate of depression, isolation, injury, and death. I will discuss how environmental factors such as clutter, steps, lighting, and seat heightening can play a large role in falls along with several medical and behavioral factors.

Why work with Rebeca?

Rebeca Sternbach draws upon a variety of professional experiences and industry-leading certifications to offer her clients home modification and safety solutions. With experience as the Assistant Supervisor of Acute Care Occupational Therapy at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Rebeca treated patients in their immediate recovery from serious medical issues, including neurological, orthopedic, and chronic conditions. She also coordinated discharge planning, at-home equipment recommendations, and referrals for follow-up services to help patients continue in their recovery.

Recognizing that in-patient treatment was only a small piece of the totality of care that at-risk populations needed, Rebeca developed a passion for the often overlooked needs of those returning home. This led Rebeca to become a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and earn an Executive Certification in Home Modification from the University of Southern California.

Combining her varied experiences and holistic understanding of in-home client care, Rebeca helps clients live at home as independently as possible independent of their ability. She has helped clients adapt to cognitive and physical disabilities at home and within their communities by focusing on adaptive client functionality that is tailored to each client’s specific needs and environment. Rebeca can evaluate and provide solutions and resources to help clients stay in their homes for as long as they are safely able to do so.

Recognizing the physical, emotional, and mental challenges families and caregivers face as their loved ones age or confront acute illnesses and chronic conditions, Rebeca also works to ease the caregiver’s burden by providing guidance, assurances, and regular communication along the way.

Rebeca graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Health Science and received her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from Kean University.
